Oil on panel

Lisa Boemer (b. 1963, Wisconsin, U.S.A.) is a contemporary painter based on the North Shore of Boston. She works primarily in plein air oil on panels and canvases, as well as non-representational compositions in oil and cold wax, and acrylic on NOAA nautical charts. Boemer is best known for her vibrant paintings that layer navigational charts with expressive brushwork, merging cartographic precision with atmospheric abstraction.

Her work is characterized by recurring motifs of coastlines, harbors, and shifting skies, rendered in a luminous palette of oceanic blues, sunlit ochres, and earthy greens. Moving fluidly between representation and abstraction, her paintings explore themes of navigation, memory, and resilience while reflecting a deep connection to the sea. Among her important projects is the Right Whale Series, created to highlight the plight of the critically endangered North Atlantic Right Whales.

Boemer’s painting ACHELOIS was awarded 2nd Place – Abstract by BOLD Brush, sponsored by FASO and judged by Eric Armusik, further affirming her growing national visibility. She was also awarded the 2024 Mass Cultural Council Artist Residency Grant, the 2025 LynnSpire Grant, and support from the New England Foundation for the Arts, Public Art Learning Fund, which enables her to pursue two online mural training courses through Common Wealth Murals. In March 2025, she completed a two-week residency at the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill. In July 2025, she attended the Summer Undergraduate Residency Program (SURP) at the New York Academy of Art, where she was awarded a partial merit scholarship and earned a certificate of completion.

Lisa Boemer has participated in juried group exhibitions including the Copley Society of Art in Boston, Massachusetts; the WAH Center in Brooklyn, New York; and the Marblehead Arts Association in Marblehead, Massachusetts. These highly selective exhibitions reflect the recognition of her work within established artistic institutions and her growing visibility in the contemporary art community. Her paintings are held in various private national collections and continue to gain recognition for their unique synthesis of environmental awareness and painterly abstraction.
